IDP children will be granted with the laptops

On April 14, 2010 on mother language day the winners of a calligraphy competition were revealed in the manuscript national centre; the winners were granted with the presents.  IDP winner children were awarded with the personal computers by the minister of Refugees and Accommodation of Georgia Koba Subeliani.

As a result of the war with Russia in August 2008, new flow IDPs appeared. About 25 000 people from Didi and Patara Liakhvi Gorge, villages of Tighvi community and Akhalgori region became IDPs.
  
The Coalition “For IDPs Rights”, which was established in October 2008, aims at facilitation of coordinative work among nongovernmental organizations and initiative groups in conflict zone, mobilization of IDPs and population, which was affected during the armed conflict in August 2008, for protection of their interests and rights, and making the process of overcoming of critical situation more effective by making programs implemented by the government and donors in economical and infrastructural point of view or distribution of humanitarian aid more transparent.
  
The Coalition unites the following nongovernmental organizations and initiative groups of the conflict zone:

1. Bridge of Friendship “Kaltrlosi”
2. Tskhinvali agency of regional development
3. Union “Gzanateli”
4. Akhalgori Business Center
5. Society “Biliki”
6. Women’s initiative group “Nikozi”
7. Initiative group “Borjomi”
8. Initiative group “Old Disevi”
9. Youth Parliament of Tskhinvali region
10. “Akhalgori”
11. Abkhazian branch of Creators’ Union at Trade Unions of Georgia

Organizations – members of the Coalition have been working on implementation of peaceful initiatives in conflict zone, building of civil society and development of small business for a long period of time. Some members of the Coalition, for example: Akhalgori Business Center and the Bridge of Friendship “Kaltrlosi” implement their activity with the support of the “Open Society Institute – Georgia” Foundation. 

 


  • Monitoring by “Transparency International – Georgia”

    The “Transparency International – Georgia” that is a member of an Advisory Council of the Coalition “for IDPs rights”, has implemented monitoring in 14 places of the compact settlement of IDPs, who were forced to leave their homes during the war in August.
